Can people ENDURE simplicity?

Human DNA has 4 elements.   These 4 elements direct the development and function of 50 to 75 TRILLION cells.

If you were designing the human body, how many elements would you have used in our DNA?  I would have used far more!   Do you know, often when scientists want to understand how to do things efficiently, they look to the natural world around us?   They call it the natural world; in the past, before people tried to divorce God from his creation, people would study the world with the conviction that they were studying the mind of God.

It takes a lot of work to unlock the understanding of simplicity.   Scientist have designed gecko tape that uses weak intermolecular attraction to be at one moment super sticky and the next not sticky at all.  They designed paint to remain dirt free by examining how lotus leaves shed dirt with a pattern of bumps and crystals.  These cause dirt to raise up and be gathered by forcing raindrops to turn into dirt catching balls of water.  These complex actions that develop in God's creation occur through the simplicity of a few elements, the DNA.

When Jesus established his Kingdom,  he gave us simplicity; making disciples by passing on what we know,  loving our neighbor and learning how to be good brothers and sisters to each other.  These are not complex things.  I don't know how it has been for you, but these simple things were not what I learned when I became a Christian.   And, for most of us; the time to learn the first things - like learning how to walk, do math and read... that time has past and we focus more on getting along day to day with what we know instead of going back to review the basics.   But, if the time has passed and we have not mastered simplicity, then what?

In the natural world, those that don't master the simple skills of reading, writing and math are permanently impoverished.   Perhaps we can see that in the reflection of the body of Christ?

Do people know how to be love their neighbor and be 'Christ to them'?

Do people know the principles of marriage, how to be married and stay married?  I think not with today's divorce rate, even among Christians.

Do people know how to be family - with families distant, scattered and often disconnected?   Do we know how to be the family of God for each other?

Do people know how to make disciples, learning and passing on what we know to help friends and family find Christ and grow to all that God has for them?

Do Christians know how to connect to do all the work that we, the body of Christ should do?   For too long, the body of Christ, the church, has been the tail - not the head, declaring as God intended his many sided wisdom.  Do we really understand that the body of Christ is a living 'thing', that the DNA is designed so that the body can grow and do incredible things?

If the body is to be all it is intended to be, we need to make sure each element of DNA in our own lives intact and functional, that we have mastered it...

      Disciple building..

      Marriage building..

      Family building...

Body building, connecting and building the body of Christ, the church.

Can we endure such a 'simplistic' approach?

Can we afford not to learn to master the basics?

  • Human genome is approximately 3 billion base pairs long.

Amoeba dubia ( very small single celled creature) has 670 billion base pairs

Amoeba proteus has 290 billion base pairs

King of them all is Paris japonica, a rare Japanese flower.149 billion base pairs, which is about 50 times the size of a human genome and makes it the owner of the largest genome ever found (till now!). The former champion was marbled lungfish – 130 billion base pairs

  • Yes, it seems that mastering the basics can really be a challenge!  ;-)

Wow, Juanita, what a post!!!  If the explanations about "studying the mind of God" doesn't blow one away, the challange to educate oneself about disciple, marriage, family, and church body building certainly does.  You particularly caught my attention concerning marriage building, because I've read and studied all the leading marriage counselors and authorities across the US, and in doing so, have accumulated knowledge equal to veteran marriage counselors.  I found out how marriage can be either the most painful soul rending union on earth or the highest levels of fulfillment and joy.  The main ingredient for a marriage to overcome successfully ANY hurdle between husband and wife is WILLINGNESS free of guile.
