When we understand that God is love and that God lives in love, we begin on the path that leads to pure joy... Pure joy happens as we live in love.

A child delights in offering a flower or a bite of cookie to the parent.  The parent receives each as a gift of love.   Those who watch are swept up into the delight of the moment!

We can present every mundane task we do: filling the car with gas, washing the dishes, mowing the lawn, EVERYTHING to God as an act of love.

God's delight over us is boundless!   We have the earthly opportunity to do all we do as acts of love for God.   This is walking with God- giving and receiving in love.

The child is delighted when the father gives him a gift of a red block, not because of his great love for blocks but because he has received that special red block from the father he loves.

Similarly, for joy, we ought to take the blessings in our lives not things that we focus our affection on but as road markers leading us to see the love of our Father.

Thinking in this manner is not part of our normal, human and rebellious nature.  It takes a little effort to turn to  focus on offering the little things as well as the big things to God.

To focus on presenting each task to God as a gift to him is to talk to him and tell him our intention, with joy.  His joy will flow back to us.

We do not have the strength to not run into the road chasing red balls, we need God's strength even to offer the big and little things to him.

"Lord, I can never do this without your strength."

And, with the best intentions we will stumble and fall at times.  "Lord, I can do nothing better without you.  Please keep me from falling and correct the mistake I made."

We can speak simply and honestly to God: a father tries to speak to his child simply and clearly and delights in the simple words from the child he loves.

The test of love:  a father asks the child to do something the child is sure is too hard.  Riding a bike.  When the child puts his trust in a wise father and succeeds-they both experience pure joy!

Until the the test of love comes, the father and child cannot together experience that pure joy.   Why then, do we cringe when tests come?   It is our human nature getting in the way of pure joy.

When we over-think the tests in front of us, they can grow-the worry can overshadow everything.   A child can trust and not walk in fear.  We can choose faith and trust.

Sometimes the biggest battle we face is not the test itself, but rejecting the thoughts that flood our mind.  The battle to give it to God can be as hard as the test itself.

We should make a sharp distinction between the thoughts that flood our minds at times and the times when we choose to act on those thoughts.   We are in charge of our 'will'.

Sometimes we go through the test all by ourselves, not putting our hand in God's at all.   The end?  Self-satisfaction; not a delight shared with the Father.

To walk with the Father is not natural, to share our lives is not a normal part of our human nature, it is a unique opportunity presented to us by God because of his love for us.

Shall we take the opportunity?  Shall we experience pure joy by walking in the Father's love?

Prayer:  "Lord, I offer what I am doing right now to you... help me offer all my life, all I do to you.  I want to do them walking in your love and do them well out of my love for you.  Without you, I will always fail.  I want to walk with you, in your love!"

Discussion:

Have you been encouraged to bring everything, big and little to God?  If so, how?

Do you think there is a connection between bringing things to God and experiencing joy?  What?

Do you agree with what was written above:  "We do not have the strength to not run into the road chasing red balls, we need God's strength even to offer the big and little things to him." If so, can you share how can we receive God's strength?
