Johnny and I have been on a 'food journey'. Both of us struggle with excessive weight and food related health issues.
We read a book that made a convincing argument that, for the health of our hearts, we consider a plant based diet.
This was frightening to me to consider cooking with no meat, no oil and no dairy: milk, eggs, etc. I have now learned the skill of being able to prepare meals this way. I have learned to make delicious and healthy meals.
So far, ten weeks into the diet, we have both experience tremendous positive weight impacts. I have tried to drop twenty pounds that I have gradually put on over the last ten years. Johnny is trying to drop about double that. In these first 10 weeks, I have lost 8.5 pounds and Johnny has lost 17 pounds.
Health wise - I have been extremely food allergy prone. Food often makes me sick. I was tested for allergies and found that I was allergic everything imaginable. I decided to ignore the long list of 'don't eat' foods and just eat this plant based, healthy diet. Since on this diet I have hardly have any food reactions!!!
The last comment, we are not pursuing this diet in a legalistic way. We went on a vacation to celebrate our 40 years of marriage and ate whatever we wanted. Two things occurred, our food choices tended to be better than than they used to be. Second, our bodies have become like 'rubber bands', we each gained weight on our vacation. When we got back to normal eating, we immediately dropped that weight and are moving back to the path of losing weight. I believe we will lose weight until we get to the point where we are at our natural and normal body weight.
In this group I will try to put our learning, recipes and tips.
Feel free to post, comment and share regarding your own food experiences.
This way of eating is formally called a "Flexitarian Diet" - i.e. it is a vegetarian diet that flexibly includes some meat.
