Daily Reflection!

Let us imagine that we are a brush in the hand of an infinitely perfect artist. What must a brush do to make the painting turn out most beautiful? It must allow itself to be guided as perfectly as possible...When Eternal Wisdom, God, uses us as an instrument, then we shall act most fruitfully...when we permit ourselves to be directed most perfectly and entirely.

Daily Reflection!

God approaches gently, often secretly, always in love...He comes to us, as He Himself has told us, in those whom we know in our own lives. Very often we do not recognize Him. He comes in many people we do not like, in all who need what we can give, in all who have something to give us, and for our greater comfort. He comes in those we love, in our fathers and mothers, our brothers and sisters, our friends and our children. Because this is so, we must not be content ever to love with only… Continue

Daily Reflection!

Whatever the work with which you have been entrusted - as a religious, as a layperson - it is a means for you to put your love for God in a living action, in an action of love. . .Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing. . .So if I want to know how much I love Christ, if I want to know if I am really in love with God, then I have only to look at how I do the work He has entrusted to me- how much love I put into the doing of that work.… Continue

Daily Reflection!

The times of trial are judged to have been profitable. They were good for me. The agent of the humiliation was not others, not events, not even myself. It was the work of God. And the purpose of the process was continued schooling in God's law; to help me to learn the ways of God. It is impossible to conceive of anyone being wise without their having been through hard times. It is the discovery of God's surprising closeness when everything goes wrong that leads to genuine spiritual wisdom.

Daily Reflection!

This hidden God who challenges our faith, teaches us at the same time, by his example. He gives himself, unresisting, into our hands; we are to give ourselves unresisting into His hands, without struggle, without reservations, without misgiving. The inner reality of our souls is to be something different from anything the world sees. Behind the mask of our daily cares and preoccupations, there is to be some other foundation for our lives, a continual aspiration towards God and desire for His… Continue

Daily Reflection!

How should we regard life as we go through it? We are immortal - independent of time and space. This life is but a sort of outward stage on which we act for a time. We should consider ourselves to be in this world as players are in a game - and this life is as different from our real existence as a dream differs from waking - and yet it is a serious dream as we are judged by our actions. And so the spiritual man goes through life doing his actions for God's sake. It is this view of life that… Continue

Daily Reflection!

You say to me, "Show me your God"... I answer you, "Take a look at your heart." Everything you see in it that might sadden God, remove. God wants to come to you. Listen to Christ your Lord: My Father and I will come to him and make our home with him.(Jn14:23) That is God's promise. If I were to tell you I was coming to stay with you, you would clean your house. Now it is God who wants to come into your heart. Do you not hasten to purify it?...Purify your heart.

Daily Reflection!

We can hope. We are precisely the ones that Jesus came to save, for we are being lost. Yes, without Him we are perishing at every moment. We can hope, for whatever we may be guilty of, Jesus wants to save us. The more sinful we are, the closer to death, the deeper our state of despair for our body and our soul, the more it can be said that Jesus wants to save us, for He came to save what was about to be lost. We must never be discouraged but always hope. We are on the edge of a gulf, we are… Continue

Daily Reflection!

Better than any other good you can hope to acquire, is the habit of cultivating the presence of God in your daily life. I've tried to suggest already what I mean by that. I mean pulling yourself up at odd moments during the day. . .not fixed times - pulling yourself up just in those few seconds while your mind is unoccupied, and letting it dwell on the thought of God. God, not far away somewhere in the clouds, but close to you all the time, his Spirit enfolding and embracing your spirit, closer… Continue

Daily Reflection!

The perfectly poor in spirit dwell as servants in the peace of their own humility, waiting upon God and his will, wanting nothing for themselves except what he wants for them...They remain in peace where God places them, occupied with carrying out his signified will and their obvious duties, with praising and loving him in their hearts, content with the present, detached from the past, unconcerned and unpreoccupied with the future. Having let him strip them of every attachment, material,… Continue

Daily Reflection!

Dear Lord, help me to remove from my mind every thought or opinion which You would not sanction; every feeling from my heart which You would not approve. Grant that I may spend the hours of the day gladly working with You according to Your will. Help me just for today and be with me in it. In the long hours of work, that I many not grow weary or slack in serving You. In conversations, that they may not be to me occasions of uncharitableness. In the days worries and disappointments that I may be… Continue

It is Jesus that says that your life matters...Jesus sees the gift that is in each of us. He desires that we use that gift to lead others to him...Yes, there are people who are holier and more spiritual than we. But you are not an insignificant player in the story of faith. In your life - your relationships, the situations you encounter each day - you have the opportunity to lead someone to Christ...You may insist that someone else can do it better. But Jesus wants you to be that someone… Continue

Daily Reflection!

Wisdom tells us what we cannot know. Wisdom defines the limits of knowledge. Wisdom, however, always points us to a place and a purpose beyond knowledge. Wisdom takes us where knowledge can't go; to the thoughts of God and the mind of God. The summit of knowledge is to know God's will. That is the only knowledge we really need. The only knowing that is ultimately worthwhile is to know what God wants in our lives. What God always wants for us is love and the fruits of love...Wisdom allows us to… Continue

Daily Reflection!

Our task as Christians is to proclaim the kingship of Christ, announcing it through what we say and do. Our Lord wants men and women of his own in all walks of life. Some he calls away from society, asking them to give up involvement in the world, so that they remind the rest of us by their example, that God exists. To others he entrusts the priestly ministry. But he wants the vast majority to stay right where they are, in all earthly occupations in which they work; the factory, the laboratory,… Continue

Daily Reflection!

Those in true union with God are always peaceful and calm, and nothing can scandalize them because they have done away with what causes them to take scandal, their self-will. They trample underfoot all the persecutions that the world and the devil can hound them with. They can stand in the waters of great troubles and temptations, but it cannot hurt them...They find joy in everything.

Daily Reflection!

Whatever be my age, whatever the number of my years, I am ever narrowing the interval between time and eternity. I am ever changing in myself. . .I know O my God, I must change, if I am to see Thy face. I must undergo the change of death. Body and soul must die to this world. My real self, my soul, must change by a true regeneration. Let me day by day be molded upon Thee, and be changed from glory to glory, by ever looking towards Thee, and ever leaning on Thy arm...I know not what lies before… Continue
