Hope Whispers... try one more time

Hope. It’s what drives me, and keeps on driving me. What would I do without it? What would you do without it? True hope is found looking at things from God’s perspective. Hope has to do with the unseen and the future…

“To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. “ Colossians 1: 27

Let me take you back in time to when I was living life on my own terms… back to when I was that shallow, self-sufficient and destructive girl, who didn’t know God and didn’t want to know God. I’m sure that some of you can relate.  Even back then I most definitely had hope.  But it was misguided hope. It was hope for more money, a nicer car, designer clothes, a big house, just more stuff! I had hope in anything or anyone that promised to feed my huge ego. I guess you can call it a “materialistic” hope, LOL.  I thought I was the Material Girl (remember Madonna’s song from the eighties?)!  I’ll spare you the story of my spiritual awakening; although you can read about it in my book-Volume One (Plug for my Book!!).  Seriously…

If we already have something, why would there be any reason to hope? Hope = Faith. It’s natural for children to trust their parents, even though parents sometimes fail to keep their promises. Our Heavenly Father always keeps His promises. His plan to fulfill them may take longer than we expect. And that’s hard.  The waiting is the hardest part (Read “Waiting (It’s the Hardest Part)”). I was recently reading something, I forget where, but it was about how to rekindle the flame of hope in your heart. Through what I was reading, God was saying “Go to My Word and stand on My Promises. Reject your doubtful feelings. All hope is born out of My Promises.”

Did you get that… all hope is born out of His promises.  Again, Hope = Faith.  Faith is grounded in God’s promises.  The Bible tells us that when we were saved, we were given the hope of resurrection life with God for all eternity.  The Holy Spirit has put His seal on our hearts.  In other words, we’re living in a hope so real… we base our lives on these promises.

“And it is impossible to please God without faith.  Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”  Hebrews 11: 6
“Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.” Hebrews 11: 1-3

Hi Lori,

Well put. Nice post. I read a quote on twitter that said, "Hope knows God can, faith believes God will.' I thought it was pretty neat. You are a good writer, I bet your book is thought provoking.

Thanks so much for posting, Lori..

"Hope deferred makes the heart sick" as it says in the book of Proverbs.  It is through God's promises that we escape the corruption in the world that is caused by evil human desires.  In the 119th Psalm it says that "God's promises are my life", as the Father disciplines us so that we can share in His holiness, God's promises become are only hope which = faith.
