Reaching the disabled in Church is a ministry that many churches lack. What are some ways that we can serve the mentally and physically disabled in our Churches?

1. Ramps

Having a ramp for easy access to the Church is a great idea. Churches should be ready to accommodate people in wheelchairs. It shows that you care and want them at the Church.

2. Have ushers ready to help.

Many "homes" for the mentally disabled bring their patients to  Church. It would be a nice gesture for ushers to be ready to help the aids out by helping push wheelchairs, assisting where needed, etc. It would speak volumes to have people ready to help.

3. Have a section specified for those with disabilities.

It would be nice to have a section set up for this. If your Church has a group home that comes every week and some are in wheelchairs it would be nice to set aside an area for them to sit at that is wheelchair accessible and easy for nurses/aids to get in and out quickly.

4. Make a point to make them feel welcome

Ive been to churches where you can see people visibly annoyed when the Martha Loyd patients come in.

Rather than feeling uncomfortable, go out of your way to hug the lady with Downs Syndrome, or the man in a Wheelchair or the woman who cant speak. Gods love goes a long way.
