Accusations against Eddie Long aren't new, but a divorce is. It would seem the Long family has been in great turmoil, and it has gotten to his wife. She filed for divorce last week, and despite statements pointing elsewhere, her lawyer has maintained that she will follow through with her filings. Yesterday Eddie announced he was taking a sabbatical, and church leaders have remained adamant that he will still be a leader in the Mega Church for which he was the pastor.
After leading a huge congregation, Eddie Long had an announcement they were all bracing for this Sunday. Bishop Eddie Long, head of one of the nation's largest mega churches, announced Sunday he will take "time off" from the pulpit to work on his family
Eddie's wife continues with divorce plans. Earlier this week, Long's wife, Vanessa Long, submitted divorce papers. On Friday, she withdrew her petition for divorce, but Saturday, her lawyer said that she was following through with her petition to end their marriage."Mrs. Long continues to hope that this matter may be resolved expeditiously, harmoniously and fairly; however, she has determined that dismissal of her divorce petition is not appropriate at this time," Vanessa Long’s attorney said in a prepared statement issued late Friday.
Accusations that Long was sexually involved with young boys was most likely a main reason for the leaving. The lawsuit filed against Eddie Long by the four young men alleged that he used "monetary funds from the accounts of New Birth and other corporate and non-profit corporate accounts to entice the young men with cars, clothes, jewelry, and electronics."

Eddie Long was a man who preached fervently about how God could reward those who followed Him.
Eddie Long, who has been a vocal opponent of gay marriage, built his empire with charisma and a prosperity Gospel message that told followers God would reward the faithful with wealth. It was an idea he embodied, sporting jewels on stage, living in a mansion and driving a luxury car.
The bishop was well-regarded in Lithonia, just outside Atlanta in DeKalb County, home to one of the most affluent African-American communities in the U.S.
Eddie's life certainly has taken a turn for the worse. The allegations have seemed to have a huge impact on his marriage and family life, and it seems odd that a man so staunch in his beliefs in homosexuality would be involved in acts with boys. With his leaving, and divorce with his wife, it would seem that he may not be back to the church for awhile.
