We have a men's meeting in our church every Monday night and about 20 guys come. After a group teaching/discussion we break up into groups of 3-5 guys and get real with each other. It has been so helpful for many of us to bear each other burdens in the areas of our struggles. I think the whole group of guys a becoming more like Christ as a result.

  • One thing that can happen within small groups is that people can get behind if they are unable to attend a meeting or several meetings. Once someone is far enough behind in the group's teachings, there is a higher chance they will fall out out of the group.

To help prevent people from getting behind in your small group ministry, I highly recommend recording your group sessions and making the lessons available via tape and/or cd, as well as via the internet. You can use MessageShare to upload your audio lessons, so no one is left out of the loop! If you have any questions about MessageShare, look no further, I'm the tech expert and I'm ready to help!
  • Great question, Pat! I think when we meet as small 'collections' of people, 2, 3, 4 etc. -we have the opportunity to really know, serve and help one another. And, it helps us to belong! These small gatherings are the reason the process TheVine works. I think it is important to 'renew' small groups regularly or the 'wineskin' gets 'old' and doesn't accomodate the new wine. That's a natural part of the process. We need to understand it and respond to it by always emerging new groups.
