Out of 55 name brand foods that contain high fructose corn syrup, one in three contained mercury levels. Mercury is considered dangerous in any level. Click here to read the article. I know for a fact that Yoplait strawberry yogurt contains what is considered a higher amount of mercury than some of the the other products, and I confirmed that Yoplait contains mercury by calling the company. They did say that their kids yogurts did not contain high fructose corn syrup. You can help avoid consuming high fructose corn syrup by checking food labels (please note, it is high fructose corn syrup that is considered harmful only when mercury is present, not just plain corn syrup), and also by buying fresh, local food, as high fructose corn syrup is used as a preservative, and fresh foods do not need to be preserved.

  • Breyer's yogurt does NOT contain HFCS, so everyone concerned about this sweetener being present in their foods may want to eat Breyer's as an alternative to Yoplait. Also, a lot of breads contain HFCS, which is surprising because when we think bread, I don't think most people think sugar (lol). But remember, HFCS acts as a preservative. There's a brand of bread called Arnold bread which does not contain HFCS. I'm not sure if all of their breads don't have HFCS, but the ones that don't say "No High Fructose Corn Syrup" right on the front of the bread bag.
