Pre-planning your church website

So, your church has decided to get a web presence, but you are not sure where to begin. I'm here to tell you some things you can do to pre-plan your website, so the actual creation of your website is not so overwhelming. In fact, pre-planning simplifies the whole website creation process!

1. Decide on a website URL, and check its availability. Some examples of a website URL are www.yourchurchname.com and www.yourministryname.com. You can check to see if a website is available on many websites, such as checkdomain.com. Once you find a website URL you like that's available, register it with a website registrar such as godaddy.com

2. Decide on a general layout of your website- how you want it to look. You can do this in Paint, or even draw it out on paper. If you want a lot of flashy things like professional graphics, animations, etc. you may want to consider hiring a website designer to design your website for you.

3. Estimate how many pages your website will have- especially if you are having someone else design your website for you. Some website designers charge based on how much content you want on your website. Examples of pages are mission statement, audio/video sermons page, about the pastor page, and contact page.

4. Designate someone to manage your website- but this will all depend on if you had someone design your website or not. Sometimes, website designers like to do the updates themselves and will charge on a per-update basis. Others will design your website how you want it and then give you the admin password so you can manage it yourself.

Once you do all this, you should have a website up and running!
