If we want to understand what God is doing today, we need to keep our eye on Israel.
Why? Because the scripture begins and ends with Israel. God is dealing with all of humanity based on our response to Israel. We as, believers, are adopted into the promises of Israel. Regarding what is happening to the world today, our future is directly linked to the Jewish people. We need to watch closely what happens in Israel today to understand where we are in the unfolding of future events.

I agree. I learned this interesting fact not too long ago. That is, the exact point of intersection of north, south, east, and west lies in the Middle East and covers Israel (Don't quote me on that, as I can't find the source right now. I'm not totally sure this is correct but I definitely remember reading something along those lines). This reminds me of how the Bible talks about the four corners of the Earth - maybe it's no coincidence that the north, south, east, west, intersection point lies in Israel!
EDIT: This may have been what I read. Apparently, Israel was the center of the ANCIENT world:
"...the small country of Israel was actually right in the center of the ancient world and lying in a position of extreme importance. Israel was located between the Mediterranean to the west and the Syrian Arabian desert to the east. It actually formed a narrow bridge that connected the great powers of the Ancient Near East. To the south was Egypt and to the north was Syria, Anatolia and northwest Mesopotamia. "
