Last night it snowed. This morning I have 4 inches on the railing and a little more falling. Snow is lacing the tree branches it's beautiful! In a bit I'll have to shovel, sweep and call the plow man. At the moment I'm loving it.
Ever consider a pea. Tiny littly round orb in a pod. Feeds me. Feeds the bunnies and deer that raid the garden. Same little round orb can grow into a vine up to 6' tall (depending on variety) and make lots of new little round pears to do it again.
What about the hickory nut.
So what has you in awe today?

Porcupine quills
Both a means of defense and an instrument of torture. Torture? Just ask the pup who tried to eat quill pig and got a snoot full of them.
A modified hollow hair with barbs on one end and loosely attached at the other.
Actually both ends are a bit pointed. Those barbs that make them stick in the critters nose also cause them to work into the body and cause greater damage if they aren't pulled.
Decoration too. Native Americans used them on clothing, and daily items.
