We’re ALL called!

2 Peter 1:3-8 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Last night in a leadership-training course we discussed the question, “Is a Divine call necessary for us to serve the Lord?” Someone then asked, “Isn’t it true that the very fact that God gives us gifts and talents means we are called to use them?” It would seem from today’s scripture that the second question answers the first. Peter says, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” bold""> Then in verse 4 “Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness;”

Jesus said IF we love Him WE WILL obey Him. He repeatedly made it clear that as His ambassadors here on earth it is our responsibility in everyday life to spread the gospel. Before returning to His Father He said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matt 28:19-20) We may suppress God’s call on our lives but the truth is we will be held accountable for the sin of disobedience. If we don’t want to one day have to explain why we failed to serve Him, we’d better starting learning today what He has designed us for and DO IT!

  • I believe we are ALL called as well. The Great Comission calls every Christian! God has given us talents and gifts and commands on not to waste them or hide them. This was a great article.
