WHAT IS Worship?

Worship comes in many forms.

Worship comes in many sounds.

Worship comes in many languages.

To me, Worship is nothing more than a connection with God where you are giving Him Honor, Glory, Praise and Love!

Clapping, Singing, Dancing, Painting, etc....those are all ACTS of Worship.

  •  God said he is a jealous god . The whole omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent flys in the face of free will. How can anyone have free will if everything everyone is going to do is already known?

God might command us to respect Him for reasons that are beyond our comprehension, but I don't think that he "needs" us to respect Him.  If He needs us to respect Him, that would imply that He is not omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent.  At least that is the way I see it and I might be getting a little bit philosophical in the context of Christian apologetics.

    Webster's online  dictionary

#4,The act of paying divine honors to the Supreme Being; religious reverence and homage; adoration, or acts of reverence, paid to God, or a being viewed as God.

The first few commandments make it clear that God does want your respect.Well the ones that wrote them do anyway.

Ya make a carved image and God will trash your family for generations. Thats a strong statement that God must have your respect.IMO.

  •      I looked up the word worship in Webster's 3rd International Dictionary, one of the definitions is reverence or respect for God.  Does God really need us to respect Him?  Fragile human beings need respect, but I don't think God does.  That might sound a little philosophical, but I think that there is more to worship then respecting God.  I think God's ultimate purpose for us is to share in His divine nature(2 Pet 1 vs 4), so maybe when we worship Him we actually become like Him, so we know Him and what it means to be like Him.  Jesus said "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth".  If God is spirit why does the scripture say HIM?  I imagine a spirit being neither male or female, so HIM must be referring to Jesus Christ.

  • Worship is that for which Satan rebelled in heaven. In Isa 14 he clearly suggests that he is after man's worship. The war for worship is the oldest war on earth. Satan and our Father were at war thousands of years before we were born. Our only significance in the matter is who our Father is--and our relationship to him. Apart from that, Satan and his minions would have little interest in us. Worship, "reasonable worship" as described in Romans 12, is sacrificial living--death to sin, self and the world. It's living in such a way that the resurrected Christ can be Himself in us. So it's more than music, dance, etc. One can do all of those things on Sunday and be a lousy husband or wife; parent or grand parent; employer or employee during the week. True worship is intimately living with Christ, practicing His presence and seeking to glorify Him in all that we say or do. And yes, as one who led worship for many years, it also involves individual and corporate encounters with Him in which we should reach the heights of adoration and the depths of intimacy--whole-hearted worship.
