“Christians don’t tell lies they just go to church and sing them” – A.W. Tozer.
I heard this quote a few months ago and it has stuck in my brain ever since. A.W. Tozer hit a very sensitive subject that the Church needs to recognize and be willing to deal with.
Sunday Morning we come in to our Church, say hello to our close group of friends, settle in our seats while the Pastor welcomes everyone and then we all stand up to sing and worship God. We sing all of these amazing songs but DO WE MEAN WHAT WE ARE SINGING? Do we even realize the depth of the words we are singing?
Look at songs like “I Love Your Presence” by Bethel. The song is all about being in the presence of God and LOVING it there. When you LOVE something you do everything you can to be invoved. How can you sing this song and only spend time with God on Sundays?
“Where You Go I Go” by Bethel is all about being Christlike-following Christ in Action, Word and Lifestyle. We sing this song but the rest of the week were cussing, lying, manipulating, yelling at our children and calling them names, getting wasted, partying, cheating on your wife, looking at porn, etc.

God is not asking us to be perfect and we are imperfect beings but why sing songs you don’t really mean?
We come into our Churches and sing these amazing songs that are straight from Heaven but do we really mean them? Do we know what we’re even singing sometimes? We sing about being a Child of God but still act like orphans. We sing “He Loves Us” and act like God could never love us. We sing about Freedom from sin but live our lives bound by sin.
I love the song “Heart of Worship” by Matt Redman. “ITS ALL ABOUT YOU JESUS”.
Worship just is not about us-its completely about surrender and worship to JESUS!
I encourage you, next time youre singing in Worship, really mean the words you are singing and apply them to your life.
