Family and Household Building

Framework for Family and Household Building

Think of this framework as a starting point for your community to create your own Shared Standards for Family Building. A good exercise is for families to design a Family Charter and make a family resolution to live by the values outlined in your family charter.  (Framework: simple concepts that frame how things work.)

God calls us to build our primary relationships and work outward, building our natural families and the extended family of God, the household of faith.

  1. We practice the ‘one anothers’, considering that each has unique love languages.
  2. We need to love one another, be devoted , and give honor to one another
  3. We should pursue peace and build up one another, try to be of the same mind, avoid dividing from one another, but seeking each other’s good.  Accept, admonish, and encourage one another to good deeds.
  4. We should assemble together, greet each other warmly, serve one another, bear each other’s burdens, be hospitable.  We should tell each other the truth, be kind, harmonious, sympathetic, gentle, tolerant, patient, bearing with one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other.  We should exhort, reprove, teach, admonish, encourage and build up one another.  Plus, speak to each other in psalms and spiritual songs, submit one to another, pray for each other, for our weakness and those things God needs to heal.
  5. We ought not have unpaid debts, complain about each other, be judgmental or put obstacles or stumbling blocks in each other’s ways, or or practice ‘payback’ or tolerate godless behavior.   Be selfish, haughty/conceited toward one another, envying each other, speaking disrespectfully of each other.
  6. We provide for those family members wherein we have responsibility, we help meet each other’s needs and we share in responsibilities.
  7. We enjoy each other and life together. We celebrate our family by creating memorable family moments and traditions.
  8. We work to create proper balance between freedom and boundaries
  9. We build memories and traditions for our natural family; we honor our extended family; we extend the family of God
  10. We work to have a positive impact - serving the natural community, serving and extending the Kingdom Community and serving those whom we are especially committed to, our Covenant Communities.  We serve God together practicing the 7 Devotions.

Scriptures

Shared Standards for Family and Household Building
God calls us to build our primary relationships and work outward, building our natural families and the extended family of God, the household of faith.
Acts 1: 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

We practice the ‘one anothers’, considering that each has unique love languages.

We need to

…love one another, this is how people know we are Christ followers, we need to work to increase our love for each other, as we do, God’s love in us grows.
John 13:34 - "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that
you also love one another.
John 13:35 - "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
1 Thessalonians 3:12 - and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and
for all people, just as we also do for you;
1 Thessalonians 4:9 - Now as to the love of the brethren, you have no need for anyone to write to you, for
you yourselves are taught by God to love one another;
2 Thessalonians 1:3 - We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because
your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater;

1 Peter 1:22 - Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the
brethren, fervently love one another from the heart

1 John 1:7 - but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 3:11 - For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one
another;
1 John 3:23 - This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one
another, just as He commanded us.

and knows God.

1 John 4:12 - No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is
perfected in us.
1 John 4:12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
2 John 1:5 - Now I ask you, lady, not as though I were writing to you a new commandment, but the one
which we have had from the beginning, that we love one another.

..be devoted to one another, and as Christian people be like family; give honor to one another
Romans 12:10 - Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor;

Romans 12:16 - Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation.

We should…
…pursue peace and build up one another, try to be of the same mind, avoid dividing from one another, but seeking each other’s good
Romans 14:19 - So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another.
