An Army Of One

Often it seems that we, the Christian, are alone in the daily battles that we face each day of our lives. When we are
facing adverse circumstances, it would seem that it is us against the
world. Each fight seems like a personal war and one that we
independently battle. Yet we must ask ourselves these questions,
“alone am I enough?” and “am I an army of one?” Yes you are an army of
one! Whether you are alone, or collectively gathered with other
Christians, you are an army.
The enemy is waging a constant war against the armies of the
Living God, of which you are. We must know who we are, how we function
as an army, on an individual and collective basis. This lesson is a
declarative word to you, letting you know that your strength is not in
the multitudes of people that may or may not be gathered with you, nor
is it in the strength of men that you are one of God’s warriors. You
alone (individually) are an army whose strength is not based upon the
might of people.

What Is An Army?
The Greek word for “army” is “strateuma” (pronounced stra-tyu-ma),
in which we get our word strategy. Strateuma means an army, band of
soldiers, soldier, man of war. The Hebrew word for “”army” is “chayil”
(pronounced khah-yil), meaning strength, might, efficiency, wealth,
army, and force. The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is God’s
strength, might, and force upon the earth, both individually and
collectively. It can also be a large armed group: a trained or armed
fighting force. If an army consists of a large force, then how can one
person qualify as an army? Without going too far into this teaching I
will say this “in Christ you are never alone.”

Waiting For Help, Instead Of Being The “One.”
Often we are waiting for multitudes or even a few other Christians
to stand up and overthrow the enemy with us, yet this does not happen.
We think that because of our sheer numbers, the enemy looks and begins
to cower and run. So we wait for the numbers that we believe would
show the enemy our strength as an army, before we step out and go.
Beloved child of God, God has not required you to wait for the masses
before you go to war; rather to be in a righteous position and being
willing to fight the enemy as an army of one. Let this truth be always
stationed in the forefront of your mind, “one who is in right standing
with God is a majority.” A lot of times we are waiting for others to
go with us who are not equipped or prepared in the heart, and they
become a great hindrance to the work that we are called to do. We can
find ourselves instead of fighting the enemy and liberating the
captives that we have been sent to, instead rescuing and fighting the
enemy in the lives of those that we brought with us, whom we thought
would strengthen us in battle.
God does not send you into a battle or lets one come upon you that
you do not have access to the resources to be victorious. He does not
need thousands to access those resources, just one righteous vessel.
One person can put a thousand enemies to flight. Joshua 23:10 says;
“One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you.”
Why is an army of one sufficient to secure victories? The above
scripture gives the secret regarding the strength of an army of one
that secures victories. The victorious one who lives in you fights for
you, and makes available to you all of His resources. Some may say
that their needs are very severe, and the natural resources of their
community or country is limited. Please understand that God is the God
who has all resources everywhere at His disposal, and He can move them
where He desires at any time. And if by chance He can’t get resources
from somewhere else to you, He can supernaturally create them to meet
your needs. So it does not matter if you are in the jungles of India,
Africa, or an island nation, you have all things available to you
because you are connected to the Army of One (God). One Christian can
put a thousand to flight because of who is with you and because of the
authority He has given you.
Let me further clarify what I mean by an army of one. When I
state an army of one, I am primarily referring to one natural person,
yet I am secondarily referring to God in whom the Christian has
unlimited access to His supernatural and natural support and
resources. So we understand that although we are individuals or one
(in the natural), we are yet never alone (in the spirit), for God’s
angelic Host (army) accompany us. This is why an individual Christian
can be defined in pluralistic terms as an army although we are just one
(natural person). It is because we yet have multitudes that war with
us (the angelic Host).
Why won’t we believe? Is it hardness of heart? After having
heard these things over and over again, have our minds grown callous or
hardened towards these truths, causing them to be rendered powerless to
us due to unbelief? Beloved you must begin to believe in what God has
equipped you with, even though you cannot see it. Faith in His Word
releases the resources, and this includes the armies of Heaven. You
must believe that there is a spiritual army that God is willing to
release to work on your behalf, in order to receive the benefits from
them. The benefits come after the faith and not the faith after the
benefits. You must believe that although you are an individual, you
are yet never alone, for all of Heavens forces and resources are
available to you. God does not have an impotent or resource deficient
army, in which you are. Whatever you need as an army of one, yet in
the army of one (God), God has it and wants to send the spiritual
shipment to you. But if you don’t believe the spiritual package of
resources is coming, how will you be able to use it? You won’t! You
must become a believing army to have what you need to war against the
enemy and be victorious.
Child of God, it is imperative that you understand this basic
truth, which is, each time the righteous Christian steps out to engage
the enemy, multitudes of Angels are stepping out with them. Although
you are an army of one, you are not alone. In the natural it may seem
that you are outnumbered by the enemy and those that serve him, yet in
the spiritual realm you always have a majority. As with Elisha and his
servant who seemed outnumbered by the Syrian army, but in the spirit
they were not, so to are you in your circumstances. Yet you must
believe God to see God’s spiritual army gathered with you to war in
every circumstance. II Kings 6:15-18 tells us of this spiritual truth,
it reads;
when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth,
behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And
his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he
may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw:
and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round
about Elisha.

“No Weapon Formed…..”
Ministries unfulfilled! Christians with gifts and talents who
won’t engage the enemy! Armies of one sent to heal the sick, hiding.
Armies called to set the captives free, shackled in fear. Armies
called to birth forth supernatural provisions, impoverished. Armies
called to teach the masses, afraid to talk. Armies called to cause
deliverance through song and music, working for the enemy. So many
Christians are sitting back in timidity afraid to stand up and declare
to their families, generation, and other constituency what God has told
them to do. They are paralyzed with fear of the enemy’s devices and
weapons. Why are you so fearful to step out onto the spiritual
battlefield? God has not given you that spirit of fear that causes you
to draw back from going forth in Him. II Timothy 1:7 says;
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
If God did not give us the Spirit of Fear, then who did? The Devil!
This spirit causes us to fear the enemy, his weapons and devices. This
spirit causes us to enlarge the enemy in our minds, thus causing a
diminishing of faith in the power of our God. Why are we so fearful
of the enemy’s weapons when ours are greater? Don’t you realize what
you have in God even as an army of one? When you speak for the Lord in
teaching or evangelism, your words that are in line with God’s Word is
a powerful weapon that overthrows the enemy. The consecrated singer or
instrumentalist songs and music are weapons that cause the enemy to
scatter. If you don’t believe me, just ask David. I Samuel 16:23 says;
it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that
David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed,
and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.”

Why are you fearful to use what you have for the Lord? Why are you waiting
for others to do what God called you to do? Step out into your destiny
in God. Fear Not!
You are an army of one and no weapon from the enemy will prosper
or be victorious against you the servant of the Living God. Isaiah
54:17 says;
weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that
shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the
heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me,
saith the LORD.”

I want you to see something that is important in this verse, which is the enemy does not use generic or the
same basic strategies on everyone; rather he forms strategies against
you that are specific to who you are, with the purpose for him to gain
or prosper and you to lose. To form something against someone you must
have observed them to find their weaknesses, and so the enemy has done
this to you. These weapons that are formed can be used through
physical people, it could be sickness, poverty, addictions, fear,
ungodly and distracting habits, various traps to get you to sin, and
much more. Yes there are many weapons that the enemy forms against us,
yet there are weapons that God has formed for us to use against the
enemy, which are far greater in might and reach than the enemy’s
Your praise is a spiritual tool that can be used in war as a
weapon. No matter where or what the battle is, your praise can be used
as a great weapon. It could be a battle for finances, for deliverance,
for faith, for healing, for ministry, for souls, for your family, for
your home, for your church, etc… Your praise can be a military
maneuver of the army of one. You don’t need a thousand to praise, just
a heart to believe God and a mouth to glorify Him. Your praise
unleashes the Angelic Host to work against your enemies on your
behalf. In II Chronicles 20:20-25 we see what praise can do for an
army, it reads;

“And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness
of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me,
O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God,
so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto
the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went
out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy
endureth for ever.

And when they began to
sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of
Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they
were smitten.

For the children of Ammon and
Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay
and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of
Seir, every one helped to destroy another.

And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they
looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to
the earth, and none escaped.

And when
Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they
found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and
precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they
could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil,
it was so much.”

The God Factor.
You are an army of one that depends on God. He sends you as His
army to different people and places to secure victories for Him.
Although we are sent to different people and places by God, He doesn’t
want us to base our military strategy on what we are able to do; rather
yield to Him, whom He had purposed us to carry to those specific people
and places, so that He could work through us. It is God that is
greater than the enemy and everything that the enemy would come against
us with. I John 4:4 says;
“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
When we come to a place, we bring the presence of God, causing the
hills (high places of idolatry in the spirit) to melt like wax at His
presence. Everything that the enemy tries to exalt and uses against us
and those we come to liberate melts away or loses its strength when the
army of one brings with them the one (God). Psalms 97:5 says;
“The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.”
The battle is not in your strength as an army of one; rather in God.
He wants us as His army to stand still (don’t move in the natural), and
see His salvation. Exodus 14:13-14 says;
Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the
salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the
Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for

The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”
God is the power and strength behind His army. You as an army of one
in God does not need to lift your hands physically against your
enemies; rather you are to stand still and become totally dependent on
the direction of the Living God. The Hebrew word for “stand still” is
“yatsab” (pronounced ya-tsav), meaning to place, set, stand, set or
station oneself, present oneself. In our battles we are to stand still
in a set place naturally, and present ourselves to the Lord. It is in
our presentation of ourselves to the Lord that He sends His military
force to fight on our behalf. To some this method or strategy seems
weak, yet it causes God’s strength to flow into our situations. II
Corinthians 12:9 says;
he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is
made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in
my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

As an army of one you must become dependent on the Lord. It is His
strength, His might and His power that enables us to be victorious in
each situation. He is able. You must make yourself available to Him
by getting into His presence in order to get His directions and
strategies for His army of one, in which you are.
So many run to what seems easy to get, human or natural help. It
easy to seek natural help, especially when we are coming under attack
from the enemy, yet we should seek the one who gives us our personal
military might to overcome our adversary. Those who seek only natural
help in these military assaults from the enemy against them will always
be dependent on natural help. The army of one must seek the Lord and
employ His strategies during these times to learn how to have constant
victories, as well as how to teach others to gain them as well.

A Personal Battle.
Recently, within a few weeks of the writing of this lesson my
blood pressure had gone up very high, and very strangely on the same
day my mother’s blood pressure was up much higher than mine. I began
reading deliverance books, which caused me to be encouraged to bind the
spirit of hypertension. When I did this my blood pressure immediately
began to drop. While in the process of doing this my mother called me
and told me that she was about to go to the hospital because her blood
pressure was dangerously high and would not go down, even after taking
medication. I got off the telephone with her and I bound the spirit of
hypertension off of her. I then went back to reading and doing some
praying. About 15 minutes later my mother called me to tell me she did
not need to go to the hospital because her blood pressure had dropped
tremendously. I did not have to call every Christian in town to help
(although there is nothing wrong with touching and agreeing with other
Christians in prayer); rather because I was in right standing with God,
Heavens resources and authority was at my disposal to remove and
destroy the enemies attack. I was an army of one, in or dependent on
You are an army of one in God. If you are not seeing the
victories that you should, then get trained, and disciplined in
righteousness. Employ the strategies that you have learned and God is
leading you in. It is in doing this that you will begin to be
victorious in battle.
So what are you waiting for? People? Finances? Don’t wait
another minute; rather go as an army of one, with great expectations of
victories in Christ Jesus. Remember your God who is for you, is always
more than a majority that is against you. Go and do what He has
called, gifted and told you to do.
