The Beggar of Golgotha - O Precious Sight, The Wonder of the Cross

BEGGAR:

I went to the killing only for a little food and maybe some clothing the soldiers did not want. With the life I live, you take what you can find! Many who come to these killings bring bread and fish. Sometimes they give me what is left over. I never knew this day would be any different.

As I watched the man hanging there between two thieves, I felt pity for him. Oh, not the kind of pity some of those people feel for me. No, it was more of a deep compassion. I felt empty inside ... as if someone had cut open my heart and emptied it out on to the ground.

When the darkness came, I grew afraid. I had never seen anything like it before. The sky was dark in the middle of the day! I knew God had released His wrath! This man must have been His Son. Why else would God get so angry?

I heard Him say, "I thirst," and when the centurion said he could be given some water, I quickly offered mine. I poured it on a sponge and held it to his lips. It wasn't much, but it was all I had to give him.

I realized another kind of thirst that day. Those people who tortured and killed that man were thirsting for something only He could give them. They realized it too late, They killed their source of love. I weep for Him ... He just loved ... and died.

O precious sight, my Saviour stands,
Dying for me with outstretched hands.
O precious sight; my Saviour loves,
Remembering salvation's day,
Remembering salvation's day.

And may I never lose the wonder, the wonder of the cross
May I see it like the first time,
Standing as a sinner lost.
Under the mercy and left speechless,
Watching wide-eyed at the cross.
May I never lose the wonder the wonder of the cross.

Though my eyes linger on this scene,
May passing time and years not steal
The power with which it impacts me,
The freshness of its mystery,
The freshness of its mystery.

Behold, the God - Man crucified,
The perfect, sinless sacrifice.
As blood ran down those nails and wounds,
History was split in two,
History it was split in two.

Behold, the empty wooden tree,
His body gone, alive and free.
We'll sing with everlasting joy
As sin and death they've been destroyed,
Yes, sin and death they've been destroyed.

(CHORUS repeated)

And may I never lose the wonder, the wonder of the cross.

Vicky Beeching

Beloved Victoria Louise Beeching is born Jully 17, 1979 and in blessed Canterbury, England. She is a worship leader and musician currently signed to Survivor and Sparrow Records. She has recently released her fourth album, entitled Painting the Invisible. Website - http://vickybeeching.com/ - Email: vickybeeching@gmail.com

Vicky grew up in Canterbury, United Kingdom, writing songs from the age of 11, and leading worship since her early teens. After earning her Theology degree at Oxford University, she trained under Brian Doerksen and Brenton Brown while at Oxford Vineyard. She also recorded with Vineyard Music UK during that time.

Before her move to Nashville, Tennessee, Vicky worked with Soul Survivor UK. She released an EP through EMI UK and was featured on various Soul Survivor albums. After moving to the United States, Vicky was signed to Sparrow Records.

Since then Vicky has played in churches and venues across America. She has also been featured at the Creation Fest East/West and Spirit West Coast music festival in California.

Based on her trip in 2006 to Peru, leading worship for more than 500 teens on a missions trip, Vicky launched worshipinaction.org, a web-based organization encouraging a generation to live out their praise in practical ways.

In 2007, Vicky delivered her second full-length studio album, entitled Painting the Invisible. The brushstrokes are laden with theologically rich lyrics and blended with deep shades and colors of emotion. Produced by Ed Cash (Nichole Nordeman, Chris Tomlin) and Nathan Nockels (Matt Redman, Downhere), with songwriting collaboration from Cash, Matthew West and Joy Williams, Painting the Invisible finds Vicky rediscovering her love for the warmth of the piano. In fact, several of the songs for the new album were written on Keith Green’s old piano, at the invitation of her mentor and friend, Melody Green.

In April 2008 Vicky briefly went back to her roots in the UK and performed at Spring Harvest in Minehead, England. Her performance brought new emotion and a lively attitude for teenagers in the iScape group to praise and worship God. There were hundreds of teenagers and young adults jumping around and praising God in a week of worship.

Vicky has featured on many live and studio worship albums, and her voice has been likened to that of Lou Fellingham, lead singer of Phatfish by many including American website ChristianityToday.
