Have you discovered that prayer is a struggle for many in your church?

And that prayer faithfulness is even a greater struggle?

Want to know how to resolve these obstacles?

Want to know a secret for energizing first the children and then everyone else in the church into daily praying?

The Prayer Garden. Allow me to introduce you to The Prayer Garden, an interactive computer software program that enthuses and energizes kids to pray daily. The Prayer Garden is a creatively innovative way to get young people (and eventually everyone of all ages) praying with more regularity, intensity, and understanding so that they can experience the Power of Prayer in their own lives and share those blessings with others!

Praying is as Easy as Planting a Garden. In the Prayer Garden, both kids and adults enjoy the nurturing and fun elements of planting and growing an online electronic garden. The proven electronic game theory, as a primary behavior motivator, has been applied to the process of prayer. A very successful electronic game called Farmville(TM), which is one of the most popular online games of all time, shares many of the same attributes as in Prayer Garden.

Tracking and Repeating Prayers. The Prayer Garden provides a singular place where kids can keep all their prayers and track how often they are praying them. In the Garden, a flower helps the user visualize a prayer. Each flower represents one prayer, and each time the prayer is brought up and prayed, the flower grows larger, as in a real garden. This visual tracking leads children to develop a regular habit of prayer by using the Prayer Garden.

Share Your Prayer. A Prayer Menu is provided when each prayer seed is planted that allows users to share (if you choose), edit, move, remove, or make a journal entry about their prayers. An individual prayer counter and also an aggregate counter to the left of the Garden tracks how many prayers are said and shared.

The Sharing Menu Option provides the ability, that if the prayer is for a certain person, (such as, “Lord, please bless Pastor B on his mission’s trip to Mexico”), that certain individual can be sent an email copy of the prayer for his/her encouragement.

The Prayer Garden — Prayer Led by Children is Revolutionizing Churches

And the children shall lead us...

(Testimony from Rev. Frank Jackson)

New Mount Pleasant Baptist Church is a beacon of light in the city of Inglewood, CA. Our city is most famous for having been the home of the Los Angeles Lakers but just as the Lakers left our city, so have many of the pillars of our city. We battle streets that call out to the worst in our children and are home to many social ills. However, our school is filled with bright eyed children and our pews are filled with devoted parents determined to provide a good life for their kids. Still, we battle every day with demons that many communities don’t have to face.

One of our goals is to keep our kids occupied. We have youth leagues, Sunday school programs and in the summer we have our own bible camp. This summer we introduced a new concept to our kids. We gave each of them a PRAYER GARDEN. On the first day of camp we used a couple of our old computers to show the kids how to plant a prayer. If you don’t yet know about the concept, it is quite simple. You enter an online garden and click on a seed and then plant it with a prayer that you write. You then say it every day. Each time you do, a little rain shower appears, followed by the sun and a rainbow. Then the plant grows and the child knows that their prayer has grown a little bit as well.

Well, the kids instantly loved the concept and wanted to go home and plant their prayers. However, even more than planting and saying their prayers they wanted to SHARE their prayers. You see, with one click they could email their prayer to a loved one. That first night we challenged each child to go home and plant a prayer in their garden for their mother, father or another loved one, and to then share it. The next day they came back and they were on fire! Their parents had loved getting the prayers. They had gotten hugs, kisses and kind words of encouragement. In one moment they had seen how their prayers could brighten the day of someone they loved. It was an inspiring moment for both the kids and myself. Our youth minister and I immediately began thinking. What if we were to give the kids the email addresses of people in our congregation that could use some loving prayers? We realized that the simple little prayer gardens that our children were raising could actually spread love and joy throughout our entire congregation.

I have become such a deep believer in the Prayer Gardens that I have actually introduced them to neighboring churches and through my work with ministers throughout California I am spreading the message as far and as clearly as I can. Make sure that every child in your church is planting their own prayer garden and inspire them to use it to say their prayers and just as importantly to share their prayers. You will be amazed at the Glory that God can inspire not just in your youth program but within your whole church.
