Evangelism through Music

I don't know about anyone else, but music really helps me understand God's word. Some Christian artists that I like to listen to are Kutless, Starfield, Relient K, and Jars of Clay. When I am feeling discouraged and I put on a Christian artist's song, it encourages me. How does music help you in your Christian walk? What artists do you like listening to?

  • Third Day and Casting Crowns are good. Like more worship music by any artist. Hey we're all sharing what we like. How on earth does one change that to evangelism? I have pointed out to others, usually Christians, that there is Christian music in almost every genera.
  • I love the music of Third Day. Listen to Offerings if you will.. Music is not just a universal language, it is also a spiritual language as well. I love praise and worship music. I have notice that a lot of praise and worship music here lately has been so much in tune with actually drawing Christians into the very presence of the lord in which the Lord inhabits such praise. It is really awesome the way the holy Spirit is inspiring God's Children to sing and write music as if we were already standing in heaven.. I do believe that even though we are experiencing just a shadow of things that is to come and as this is the case, I surely can't wait to get to Glory, to sing the glories of praise to My King Jesus! Until then though, I still will sing my heart unto him!
  • It was nice reading everyone's responses!

Robert - I forgot to mention Switchfoot! That's so cool that you got to see them perform live. I like a lot of their old stuff.

Kathleen - Tell me about it! I've been listening to Starfield's "Falling to My Knees" for the past couple days - it's a great song with a good message. I've also been listening to "Tumbling After" by Starfield.

Dave - Cool! It's neat that you can play piano and that you glorify God with your musical talents!
  • Oh, WOW, Valia, what a subject you've posted. MUSIC--it is absolutely my favorite subject and the center of my earthly activities. I know exactly what you mean. Music for worship and praise edifies and builds me up, especially when I'm down. Forget blood in my veins, my heart pumps music. Being a musician myself, I perform music to communicate with God. There is only one letter difference between "pray" and "play." I've learned to perform music to repent of daily sins, to combat discouragement, and to reconnect with God when I've not been as close as I should be. Do you know Zephaniah 3:17: "The LORD your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with his love, He will rejoice over you with singing." I strive every day to hear deeper into God's melody over me because I want to play it back to Him on my major instrument--the piano.

  • It's interesting how God will use music to remind me of spiritual things or reassure me of His love and care. I'll be fretting about something and suddenly realize that a particular tune is playing itself over and over in my head. I've learned to stop and concentrate on the words to see what God is trying to tell me. He's not fussy about the music, either--He's played back hymns, praise choruses, Christian pop music and even the odd secular song in my head to get a message across to me.

As far as Christian music I like, I've just discovered Superchick and the Barlow Girls, and have been wearing those albums out. I also like Mercy Me, Switchfoot, D C Talk, PFR, Michael W. Smith, Newsboys, Cindy Morgan and Lisa Bevill.
