The cheapest Missionaries!

As a missionary for 6 years my wife and I were financially taken care of through our local church. We were able to start an indigenous church, (a church that is self governing, self supporting, and self propagating) among the Garifuna people, who reside primarily in Nicaragua, Honduras, Belize, and Guatemala. Over the last few years I have heard so many testimonies of how God has used powerful messages on CDs and tapes to reach people all over the world. A recorded gospel message in the right hands can accomplish soooo much! It can be played over and over and over by anyone! It can travel from hand to hand, from home to home, from state to state, and even from someone in one country to people in another country. I heard of one recorded message bringing someone to Christ 20 years after it was preached!!! According to Isaiah, God's Word does not return empty after it is sent out. So, I think the cheapest missionaries that we all can send in mass quantities are those that can be heard in players all over the world, for years to come!

  • Hey Pat,
I was talking with a pastor not long ago (of a small Florida church of about 70 members) who was telling me his church didn't have enough $ to support a missionary--so they decided to take what $ they had and create an outreach website with it--and he said it was up and running. I asked him if they tracked their activity and he said Yes, and then he blew me away with telling me they had 7,000 messages downloaded in the last month! I commented that he and a missionary together couldn't have possibly preached 7,000 messages, but that his website did it for him 24/7. I also asked him to where the messages were being downloaded, and he said all major points around the world. (I knew he was doing only audio messages because he was calling me about Kingdom's WebSee internet TV.) Just think what will happen when they add video messages (WebSee TV) to their audio (Message Share)!

I told him I saw a Biblical principle at work in his situation--(1) like in the parable of the talents, since they were faithful with the little they had, God rewarded their faithfulness by giving them more, and (2) they didn't have the $ to send a two-legged missionary to ONE country, but through their church website, they have a presence in EVERY country around the world. WOW!
    Dave

  • Now it is easier than ever to share evangelistic and Scripture recordings with people who speak other languages. The Global Recordings Network (www.globalrecordings.net) currently has recordings in 5,180 languages, most of which are available for free downloading. A new website, www.scriptureearth.org is a repository for translated Scriptures of minority languages of Latin America, currently with mp3s and/or PDFs available in 165 languages. And Faith Comes by Hearing (www.faithcomesbyhearing.com) has free audio Scripture downloads in hundreds of languages.
  • Thanks for your response, Gary.
It is so exciting to see how recorded life-changing messages are reaching people, even in countries where it is illegal to be a Christian. I get e-mails continually from people like Jim Barbarrosa, who tell me of people coming to Christ in nations all over the world due to the CDs and tapes that he sends out. He does translate some of his messages into different languages but it is amazing how many people do speak English all over the world now. What an opportunity we all have now to reach others with the good news!
  • When you think of Christ going forth spreading the Gospel freely to all, He also asked others to freely be fishers of men. It is good to see this still occuring in the countries mentioned here!
